Hull’s Royce Bray is now $50,000 richer.
The Madison County driver won the FASTRAK Racing Series Grand Nationals points championship — and the prize money that came with it — after taking seventh in the Grand Finale at Rural Retreat, Va., according to fastrackracing.com.
With 95 points in the standings, Bray, driver of the no. 21 car, edged Shannon Buckingham (91 points) for the title.
With Dick Barton not in the Grand Finale, Bray’s closest competitors for the championship when the race started were Ed Dixon, Ron Parker, Chris Steele and Buckingham, according to the website.
With no communication with his crew, Bray had no knowledge of the running order of his closest competitors.
In the closing laps of the race, Bray moved around seventh place Dale Ball. Though Ty Dillion took the checkered flag, Bray’s seventh place finish was enough to clinch the championship and the $50,000.
