Recount confirms Thomas is new Madison Co. sheriff

A Thursday evening recount confirmed that Kip Thomas is Madison County’s new sheriff.

County probate judge and elections superintendent Donald “Hoppy” Royston said Thursday evening that Thomas received 5,577 votes (50.24 percent), while incumbent sheriff Clayton Lowe received 5,509 votes (49.63 percent).

The initial count on Nov. 4 had Thomas with 71 more votes than Lowe, 5,576 to 5,505.
