There many mistakes made when the so called bigger conferences came together to form the BCS. To me, this was an example of the rich getting richer. I cannot believe that the remainder of the formerly 1A schools and conferences allowed this to happen. Why did they remain silent? The other thing that bothers me is that Notre Dame was allowed in the BCS. How could an independent school rate such an honor? Based on their record over the past eight years, this was a mistake.
In my opinion, all the schools that were in a conference in 1A should have been allowed to be a part of the BCS. No independent schools should have been allowed in. You want in, go join a conference. To help weed out those who qualify and those who do not, all major conferences should have a championship game like the SEC, the ACC and the Big 12. The so called Big Ten has 11 teams. Notre Dame would be a natural fit to give them 12 teams. Divide these 12 in two and east, west and let the winners play for the league championship. Personally, I do not believe this will happen. The same holds true for the Pac 10.
There should be no rankings until all teams have played five games. It is evident that most of the times teams are rated based on the previous year. None of the sports channels have announcers who talk about strength of schedule. Some of the teams who have appeared in the BCS championship game had no business being there. The past two point out this fact. Just how many have been mismatches?
It is time to select the top eight teams each year and conduct a playoff to determine the real number one. I know that the big wigs will argue that this will take players away from school. I do not hear this argument with all the other tournaments held each year. The bottom line: In opinion, it is time for a tournament to determine a true national champion. Now, it is your turn.
Sincerely,

This argument, however, is moot. The BCS has a contract until 2014. The bowls are entrenched and college presidents are not going to kill the cash cow. But, hey, it's fun to talk about...
Fun, try it sometime, Mr. Stock.
