Cana Chambers will spend two years behind bars for stealing from the Madison County Probate Office.

The former probate office clerk was sentenced to two years confinement and eight years probation for stealing over $33,000 from the judge’s office. She will also have to repay the money she took.

Chambers pled guilty to theft by taking and false report of a crime last month.

The Madison County Probate Office was reportedly burglarized July 4, 2007, but investigators concluded that Chambers staged the break-in.

How in the world could you only get two years for srealing $33,000 ?

Sentencing guidelines, prison overcrowding, plea bargaining, etc.

...or, was that a rhetorical question?

Sometimes people get two years for manslaughter. If you want harsher sentences, petition your congressment to raise taxes for more prisons.... or to make more crimes capital offenses.

If this is any sign, what will the next two ladies receive that have supposely took money from the BOC office and the City of Danielsville?

Chambers said after the hearing Friday that she is innocent, but that she entered a plea so she can move forward with her life. Her attorney cited the case of Alford vs. N.C., saying that defendants can enter a plea of guilty but maintain their innocence if they want the proceedings to end or they feel the state’s evidence is so overwhelming that they won’t be acquitted.

She is not admitting guilt, simply that she wants it to be over. They had no evidence as the previous article reads.

Sure, they can maintain their innocence,however,it still goes on the books as "GUILTY" just like a "NO LO" plead does. She's guility and we all know it.

Eh, you just contradicted yourself. "they feel the state’s evidence is so overwhelming that they won’t be acquitted" You can't have it both ways - "no evidence" and "evidence so overwhelming."

If the evidence is overwhelming, that means she's guilty. And that's why she plead guilty. That's good. Saved us having to put her on trial, and probably shaved some time of her sentence.
