Sheriff Clayton Lowe was on his way home last Friday on Smokey Road just inside Clarke County when he spotted a black Chevrolet Caprice in front of him turn into the back driveway of a home whose resident he knew to be an elderly person.
According to the incident report, he watched to see if the car was attempting to turn around. When he didn’t see the car reappear, Lowe returned to the residence, where he spotted two black males attempting to open a basement storm door in back of the house.
He said the suspects fled when they spotted him. He gave a short chase before returning to the residence, where he disabled their vehicle in case they returned while he was checking on the resident.
A short time later, Lowe stated, an Athens-Clarke County police officer apprehended one of the suspects walking along nearby Camp Halinan Road.
