I thought I was in love with chemistry at that time, so I had signed up for the Chemical Corps. I did well at the Chemical School at Ft. McClellan Alabama and was assigned to the Chemical Corps. This week would have been my father’s 99th birthday. He was born on the second day of April 1914, near the small community of Talmo in Jackson County, Georgia on a hard-scrabble sharecropper farm. He was the oldest son of Sarah Kay and Ulysses Grant Gillispie, one of 11 children.
