A Commerce woman traveling alone on Hwy. 98 near Allen Road in Madison County lost her life in a traffic accident around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday. According to the Athens Post of the Georgia State Patrol, Mary Neal Smith, 25, of 345 Tuxedo Drive, Commerce, lost control of her 2003 Volkswagen Beetle, ran off the right shoulder, struck a culvert and went down the embankment pictured here. Smith was reportedly thrown out of the vehicle as it overturned. She was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the report.
