If it was up to me, I’d pull the plug on all anonymous comments on newspaper sites. I think it hurts society much more than it helps it. Too many folks aren’t really looking for news. Forget deer season, the moose lottery, and duck hunting. There’s a new season, and it’s humans who are now the hunted. Shootings are increasing and their randomness, lack of motive, or trivial motives are growing more shocking daily.

Census time is here again. Every 10 years, we are required by the Constitution to apportion representatives and direct taxes among the several states. There are no other purposes for the census listed among the powers of Congress, and according to the tenth amendment, Congress has no power to use the census for any other purpose. [Full Story »]

Leaders who are hesitant about a proposal are always committee-happy. They form advisory panels to create lengthy proposals with bullet-point recommendations. They seek all the advice they can get. Sometimes this is rooted in the genuine desire to be thorough and inclusive. Sometimes it’s just a stall tactic to delay the tough vote. [Full Story »]
