Monday, April 26, is Confederate Memorial Day in Georgia and much of the Old South. There will be numerous events in the area sponsored by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Sons of Confederate Veterans and numerous other pro south organizations. When you approach the old Madison County Courthouse in Danielsville from the south, you will see a marble statue next to the building. Do you have any idea who it is and why it is there? It is a replica of one of the two statues that represents Georgia in our national capital. It is of Doctor Crawford W. Long. [Full Story »]

When the first European settlers arrived in what was to become Madison County, they brought with them their plows, livestock, seed and knowledge of farming. From the beginning, Madison County was an agricultural society. Even the native Americans who preceded them raised squash, beans and corn in their gardens. [Full Story »]

Census time is here again. Every 10 years, we are required by the Constitution to apportion representatives and direct taxes among the several states. There are no other purposes for the census listed among the powers of Congress, and according to the tenth amendment, Congress has no power to use the census for any other purpose. [Full Story »]
