Dear Editor:
In response to the letter about howlers, (“Obama has no business being president,” by Joanne White, Sept. 4, The Madison County Journal,) I must concede the analogy was good. The writer said, if you take your dogs through the car wash, all they’ll see are brushes and water. Similarly, if you lock yourself in a room with Bill O’Reilly and Fox News, all you’ll see are anecdotes and innuendo, the most insidious form of slander.

Recent letters to the editor debate whether Barack Obama is experienced enough to be president — being that if not, then by default logic John McCain is second choice. While McCain is almost liberal enough for me to vote for, I fear too many people are confusing or equating experience with capability. Experience does not equal sound judgment.

Recent letters and news reports claiming that Barack Obama is such a great Christian are very disturbing. Even Obama claims to be a Christian. I fear that he is like many people in that he doesn’t understand what it takes to be a Christian.

When a citizen exercises the right to free speech in order to influence the outcome of an upcoming election, I believe that person takes on a responsibility to be as accurate and clear-headed as possible. The angry letter in last week’s paper whose only legitimate charge against presidential candidate Barack Obama is that he is too popular, and which failed to make even one legitimate point on behalf of John McCain, failed both tests, and both candidates deserve better.

Dear Editor:

In the July 24 issue of the Madison County Journal, Mr. Frank Gillispie predicted “fewer Southern votes for Obama due to all the media coverage “and the attempt to shove Obama down the throat of the American people.” I can hope his prediction is accurate. Not being a prophetess myself, I don’t claim to see the future, but I do know history’s past and unfortunately I was one of those “kiddie corps” kids for Jimmy Carter.

The national media tossed out any pretense of fairness this week with their massive coverage of Barack Obama’s campaign trip to the Middle East and Europe. The same reporters and anchors who hardly mentioned McCain’s trip to the same area just weeks earlier are swarming the area to report on every movement Obama makes. [Full Story »]
